The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner is a reference among divers’ watches; it is the watch that unlocked the deep.
THE DIVERS’ WATCH
Created in 1953, the Submariner was the first divers’ wristwatch waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). The Rolex Submariner’s robust and functional design swiftly became iconic. Since that time it has expanded its horizons well beyond the element of its birth. It has evolved with a series of patented Rolex technical innovations, guaranteeing its reliability and precision down to depths of 300 metres (1,000 feet).
At home in the oceans, where it remains an indispensable instrument for every diver, the Submariner has also conquered terra firma as the watch of action with a rugged elegance of its own.
With their subtly redesigned Oyster case, distinctive dial with large luminescent hour markers, graduated rotatable Cerachrom bezel and solid link Oyster bracelet, the latest generation Rolex Submariner and Submariner Date are firmly in line with the original model launched in 1953.

BEZEL WITH CERACHROM INSERT
The unidirectional rotatable bezel of the Submariner is equipped with a Rolex-patented 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert – in black, blue or green, depending on the version – that allows divers to monitor their underwater and decompression time for their safety.
The insert, made of an extremely hard and corrosion-resistant ceramic, is virtually scratchproof and its colour is unaffected by ultraviolet rays. The graduations and the numerals are moulded in the ceramic and coloured with gold or platinum using a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process. The bezel’s knurled edge offers excellent grip when manipulating the bezel to set dive time, even when wearing gloves.
In addition to its functions and its intrinsic technical qualities, the Submariner bezel contributes to the model’s very strong visual identity.
On new versions of the Submariner and Submariner Date, the rotatable bezel is fitted with a Cerachrom insert in black, green or blue ceramic.
OYSTER CASE, SYMBOL OF WATERPROOFNESS
The Submariner’s Oyster case, guaranteed waterproof today to a depth of 300 metres (1,000 feet), is a paragon of robustness and reliability. The characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of particularly corrosion-resistant Oystersteel or 18 ct gold. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement.
The winding crown, fitted with the Triplock triple waterproofness system and protected by a crown guard that is an integral part of the middle case, screws down securely against the case, offering watertight security. The crystal, with a Cyclops lens fitted on the Submariner Date for easy reading of the date, is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire. The waterproof Oyster case provides the Submariner’s high-precision mechanical movement with optimal protection.
The Oyster case of the Submariner and Submariner Date is made of Oystersteel, yellow Rolesor, 18 ct white gold or yellow gold and waterproof to a depth of 300 metres (1000 feet).
TRIPLOCK WINDING CROWN
The Triplock winding crown is a patented triple waterproofness system designed especially for divers’ watches. Developed by Rolex, it resists water pressure to depths of 300 metres (1,000 feet) on the Submariner models and some other Professional models, and 3,900 metres (12,800 feet) on the Rolex Deepsea. First introduced in 1970, the Triplock system consists of 10 different elements crafted from the most reliable materials. The winding crown screws down against the Oyster case as tightly and hermetically as a submarine’s hatch.

LEGIBLE AND FUNCTIONAL
On the dial, the Chromalight hour markers and hands are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting blue glow – lasting up to two times longer than traditional materials. On the bezel, the zero marker of the graduation, in the form of a triangle, is visible in the dark thanks to an embedded capsule containing the same luminescent material.

BRACELET AND CLASP, COMFORTABLE AND SECURE
The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable.
The Submariner’s Oyster bracelet is equipped with a Rolex-designed and -patented Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening, and a Rolex Glidelock extension system. The Rolex Glidelock, designed and patented by Rolex, is located beneath the clasp cover and allows fine adjustment of the bracelet length in approximately 2 mm increments up to around 20 mm – without using any tools. Thus, the watch can be comfortably worn over a diving suit up to 3 mm thick.
Robust and comfortable metal Oyster bracelet, with broad, flat three-piece links is the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.
PERPETUAL CALIBRES 3130 AND 3135
The Submariner is equipped with calibre 3130, while the Submariner Date is fitted with calibre 3135, self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Their architecture, manufacturing and innovative features make them exceptionally precise and reliable.
The Submariner’s movement will be seen only by certified Rolex watchmakers, yet it is beautifully finished and decorated in keeping with the brand’s uncompromising quality standards.
Calibre 3130 and 3135 offer a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION
Like all Rolex watches, the Submariner and Submariner Date are covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.
The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
