Waterproof to an extreme depth of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet), the Oyster Perpetual Rolex Deepsea illustrates the supremacy of Rolex in mastering waterproofness.
OYSTER PERPETUAL DEEPSEA
Waterproof to a depth of 12,800 feet (3,900 metres) the Rolex Deepsea, unveiled in 2008, is the ultimate manifestation of Rolex’s leadership in divers’ watches and the result of decades of collaboration with diving professionals. In 2014 Rolex released a special version of the model, the Rolex Deepsea with a D-blue dial, to commemorate James Cameron’s historic solo dive to the bottom of the deepest place on Earth, the Mariana Trench, some 11,000 metres deep.

COMMEMORATIVE D-BLUE VERSION
In 2014 Rolex released a commemorative version of the Rolex Deepsea sporting a deep-blue to pitch-black gradient dial. This D-blue dial is reminiscent of the ocean’s twilight zone, where the last trickle of light from the surface disappears into the abyss. It echoes James Cameron’s journey in 2012 with his Deepsea Challenge expedition, partnered by Rolex and National Geographic Society. As a tribute to this partnership, the “DEEPSEA” marking on the dial adopts the colour of Cameron’s green submersible as it is perceived underwater.
From brilliant blue to bottomless black, its two-colour gradient dial celebrates James Cameron’s historic solo dive to the deepest place on earth.
CERAMIC BEZEL CERACHROM AND LUMINESCENT DISPLAY CHROMALIGHT
The unidirectional rotatable bezel of the Rolex Deepsea is fitted with a 60-minute graduated Cerachrom insert in black ceramic that allows divers to monitor their underwater and decompression time for their safety. The insert, patented by Rolex, is made of an extremely hard and corrosion- resistant ceramic, is virtually scratchproof and its colour is unaffected by ultraviolet rays. The numerals and the graduations are moulded in the ceramic and coloured with platinum using a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process. The bezel’s knurled edge offers excellent grip when manipulating the bezel to set dive time, even when wearing gloves.
Great attention was paid to the legibility of this professional divers’ watch. The Chromalight hour markers and hands are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting blue glow – lasting up to two times longer than traditional materials. On the bezel, the zero marker of the graduation, in the form of a triangle, is visible in the dark thanks to an embedded capsule containing the same luminescent material.

OYSTERSTEEL
Rolex uses Oystersteel for its steel watch cases. Specially developed by the brand, Oystersteel belongs to the 904L steel family, alloys most commonly used in high-technology and in the aerospace and chemical industries, where maximum resistance to corrosion is essential. Oystersteel is extremely resistant, offers an exceptional finish and maintains its beauty even in the harshest environments.

OYSTER BRACELET AND OYSTERLOCK CLASP
The Rolex Deepsea’s Oyster bracelet is equipped with a Rolex-designed and -patented Oysterlock safety clasp that prevents accidental opening, and with a double extension system that allows the watch to be worn comfortably over a diving suit up to 7 mm thick, without using any tools. The Rolex Glidelock fine-adjustment system, developed and patented by Rolex, allows the bracelet length to be increased by some 20 mm in increments of approximately 2 mm. The Fliplock extension link is a fold-out link that allows the bracelet on the Rolex Deepsea to be extended by 26 mm.
Robust and comfortable metal Oyster bracelet, with broad, flat three-piece links is the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.
WATERPROOF SYSTEM
A paragon of robustness and reliability, the Oyster case of the Deepsea is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet). Its middle case is crafted from a solid block of particularly corrosion-resistant Oystersteel. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. This model’s 44 mm Oyster case, reinforced with the patented Ringlock System, was designed to provide the highest degree of resistance and reliability in a size that remains wearable and practical.
Every single Rolex Deepsea is tested to ensure its waterproofness to a depth of 3,900 metres (12,800 feet).
PERPETUAL CALIBRE 3235
The Rolex Deepsea Ref. 126660 is equipped with calibre 3235, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Calibre 3235 is a new-generation movement for a superlative level of performance. A consummate demonstration of Rolex technology, it offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.
Calibre 3235 offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION
Like all Rolex watches, theOyster Perpetual Deepsea is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.
The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
