ROLEX GMT-MASTER II REF. 126719BLRO

Unveiled in 2019 at Baselworld, the largest watch fair, Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 126719BLRO was introduced with blue and meteorite dial. Made in 18 ct white gold with bezel which is fitted with two-colour Cerachrom inserts in a blue and red ceramic, the original colours of the first GMT-Master. This version is equipped with the new-generation calibre 3285, at the forefront of watchmaking technology. With 10 patent applications filed over the course of its development, the movement is equipped with a Chronergy escapement and guarantees a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.

ROLEX GMT-MASTER II

The Rolex GMT-Master was originally designed for professional use to aid airline pilots. However, its combination of peerless functionality and instantly recognizable aesthetics has attracted a wider audience of world travellers. Designed to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously during intercontinental flights, the GMT‑Master has come to be recognized for its robustness and versatile appearance. The GMT-Master II evokes intercontinental travel across time zones. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) marks mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London — the location of the original meridian used for calculating longitude and determining different time zones around the world.

METEORITE DIAL

For the first time, a meteorite dial has been fitted on the 18 ct white gold GMT-Master II. Each dial is made from an extremely rare slice of iron meteorite that travelled hundreds of millions of kilometres across the solar system to reach our planet. During the course of its epic journey, the metals at the centre of the meteorite very gradually crystallize, producing highly unusual extra-terrestrial metallic patterns, which are impossible to recreate on Earth. These natural patterns mean that each Rolex meteorite dial is unique.

A 24-HOUR ROTATABLE BEZEL

In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the GMT-Master II features an arrow-tipped hand, which circles the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel. The distinctively coloured 24-hour hand displays the “home” reference time in a first time zone which can be read on the graduations on the bezel. The traveller’s local time is easily set by “jumping” from hour to hour, thanks to an ingenious mechanism operated via the winding crown: the hour hand can be adjusted forwards or backwards independently of the minute and seconds hands. This allows travellers to adapt to their new time zone without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

CERACHROM INSERT

A manufacturing masterpiece. From extremely thin powder to an almost indestructible ring, Rolex developed an exclusive technique to create the GMT-Master II’s red and blue Cerachrom insert. The brand usually employs zirconia to make ceramics, but this mineral cannot reach the desired red colour. Rolex therefore undertook significant research to develop an alternative using alumina, another mineral. The blue colour is achieved by impregnating half of the insert with a solution of chemical compounds, which will turn from red to blue during sintering at more than 1,600°C. Known as sintering, this firing process, during which the ceramic takes on its final colours, lasts over 24 hours. This calls for great delicacy and precision to ensure a sharp, clear demarcation of colours on each half of the insert. Numerals and graduations are coated in one-micron thick layer of platinum via PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) before a final polishing gives the GMT-Master II bezel a long-lasting lustre. Precision machining with diamond tools gives the piece its final shape and size.

18 CT WHITE GOLD

By operating its own exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivalled ability to cast the highest quality 18 ct gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum or palladium added, different types of 18 ct gold are obtained: yellow, pink or white. They are made with only the purest metals and meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment, before the gold is formed and shaped with the same painstaking attention to quality. Rolex’s commitment to excellence begins at the source.

OYSTER BRACELET

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex. This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

Robust and comfortable metal Oyster bracelet, with broad, flat three-piece links is the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.

3285 MOVEMENT

The GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a new-generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, at the forefront of the art of watchmaking, this self-winding mechanical movement led to the filing of several patents and offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.

Calibre 3285 incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference. The movement is fitted with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy that makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. The oscillator is fitted on the Rolex-designed and -patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, increasing the movement’s shock resistance.

Calibre 3285 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3285 extends to approximately 70 hours.

SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION

Like all Rolex watches, each GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.

The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
