ROLEX GMT-MASTER II

The Rolex GMT-Master was originally designed for professional use to aid airline pilots. However, its combination of peerless functionality and instantly recognizable aesthetics has attracted a wider audience of world travellers. Designed to show the time in two different time zones simultaneously during intercontinental flights, the GMT‑Master has come to be recognized for its robustness and versatile appearance. The GMT-Master II evokes intercontinental travel across time zones. Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) marks mean solar time at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London — the location of the original meridian used for calculating longitude and determining different time zones around the world.

ROLEX GMT-MASTER II AND ROLAND-GARROS

The slow clay surface of Roland-Garros produces long, absorbing rallies and places huge physical and mental demands on players. To reign supreme here, a champion must prevail in seven tough rounds and muster vast reserves of skill, patience and endurance. The second Grand Slam® event of the season is staged in Paris over two weeks in late May and early June and dates back to 1891.

The 2019 edition marks the start of Rolex’s special relationship as its Premium Partner, Official Timekeeper and Official Watch. Rolex GMT-Master II Ref. 126711CHNR became official watch of the prestige tennis tournament Roland-Garros 2019.

BLACK DIAL

The dial is the distinctive face of a Rolex watch, the feature most responsible for its identity and readability. Characterised by hour markers fashioned from 18 ct gold to prevent tarnishing, every Rolex dial is designed and manufactured in-house, largely by hand to ensure perfection.

A 24-HOUR ROTATABLE BEZEL

In addition to conventional hour, minute and seconds hands, the GMT-Master II features an arrow-tipped hand, which circles the dial once every 24 hours, as well as a bidirectional rotatable 24-hour graduated bezel. The distinctively coloured 24-hour hand displays the “home” reference time in a first time zone which can be read on the graduations on the bezel. The traveller’s local time is easily set by “jumping” from hour to hour, thanks to an ingenious mechanism operated via the winding crown: the hour hand can be adjusted forwards or backwards independently of the minute and seconds hands. This allows travellers to adapt to their new time zone without affecting the precision of their timekeeping.

EVEROSE ROLESOR, A MARRIAGE OF EVEROSE GOLD AND OYSTERSTEEL

Gold is coveted for its lustre and nobility. Steel reinforces strength and reliability. Together, they harmoniously combine the best of their properties. A true Rolex signature, Rolesor has featured on Rolex models since the early 1930s, and was trademarked as a name in 1933. It is one of the prominent pillars of the Oyster collection. Rolesor is the story of the auspicious meeting of two materials on a single Rolex watch: the juxtaposition of gold and steel with their contrasting colours and radiance, in subtly balanced harmony.

To preserve the beauty of its pink gold watches, Rolex created and patented a new alloy that it casts in its own foundry: Everose gold, which owes its unique colour – a pink hue unlike any other – to its composition. Introduced in 2005, it is used on all Rolex pink gold watches, as well as on a special blend of materials, the Everose Rolesor.

Everose Rolesor is the combination of two metals: Everose gold, with its unique pink colour unlike any other; and steel known for its resistance to corrosion, ensures strength and reliability.

OYSTER BRACELET

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex. This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

Robust and comfortable metal Oyster bracelet, with broad, flat three-piece links is the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.

3285 MOVEMENT

The GMT-Master II is equipped with calibre 3285, a new-generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. A consummate demonstration of technology, at the forefront of the art of watchmaking, this self-winding mechanical movement led to the filing of several patents and offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.

Calibre 3285 incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference. The movement is fitted with an optimized blue Parachrom hairspring, manufactured by Rolex in an exclusive paramagnetic alloy that makes it up to 10 times more precise than a traditional hairspring in case of shocks. The oscillator is fitted on the Rolex-designed and -patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, increasing the movement’s shock resistance.

Calibre 3285 is equipped with a self-winding module via a Perpetual rotor. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3285 extends to approximately 70 hours.

SUPERLATIVE CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION

Like all Rolex watches, each GMT-Master II is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.

The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
