At its launch in 1956, the Day-Date was a major innovation: it was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock – a technical feat at the time. The indication of the day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. Watches in the Day-Date range are made only in precious metals – 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold or 950 platinum.

Marking its 60th anniversary the Rolex Day-Date 40 Ref. 228235 has been given a bright new dial in green, Rolex’s hallmark colour. This special version is available exclusively in 18ct Everose or white gold, featuring the characteristic fluted bezel associated with the model since 1956.
The deconstructed Roman numerals of the Day-Date 40 Ref. 228235 model are made of 18 ct pink gold and polished one by one, on both sides The craftsman operates in the dark with a light directed only at the component, to ensure a level of finish and reflection that no machine could achieve.

A new-generation concealed attachment beneath the bezel ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case, for a final aesthetic and functional touch to this sumptuous bracelet.

EVEROSE GOLD
Rolex gold is like no other. It is made of only the purest metals, meticulously inspected in an in-house laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment. These metals are alloyed by fusion in a crucible at over 1,000 °C, according to closely guarded formulas to produce the 18 ct yellow, white and Everose gold alloys specific to Rolex.

A paragon of robustness and elegance, the Oyster case of the Day-Date 40 Ref. 228235 is guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet). Its middle case is crafted from a solid block of Everose gold. The case back, edged with fine fluting, is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The winding crown, fitted with the Twinlock double waterproofness system, screws down securely against the case. The crystal is made of virtually scratchproof sapphire and is fitted with a Cyclops lens at 3 o’clock for easy reading of the date. The waterproof Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Day-Date 40’s high-precision movement.

The Day-Date 40 Ref. 228235 is equipped with a new-generation movement, calibre 3255, entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex for a superlative level of performance. This self-winding mechanical movement is at the forefront of the art of watchmaking. A consummate demonstration of Rolex technology, with 14 patents, it offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetism, ease of use and reliability.
Calibre 3255 offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours.
Like all Rolex watches, each Day-Date is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to its own criteria. These certification tests apply to the fully assembled watch, after casing the movement, guaranteeing superlative performance on the wrist in terms of precision, power reserve, waterproofness and self-winding. The precision of a Rolex Superlative Chronometer is of the order of −2/+2 seconds per day, or more than twice that required of an official chronometer.
The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by the green seal that comes with every Rolex watch and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.
